THE BIRDS AND THE BUMBLEBEES
we stand in the hallway
our bodies intertwined
warmth is shared
as i close my eyes
turn off my ears
shut down my brain
& let my heart control the play
chorus:
cause i swear
i can’t stand wanting you
& your eyes
give me peace
i need you
i love you, boo
our grasp ends
my cheeks are tickled pink
and the butterflies
are going made as my heart sinks
i hold his hand
i can barely stand
i like you
chorus:
cause i swear
i can’t stand wanting you
& your eyes
give me peace
i need you
i love you, boo

imagine: you like a guy who you swear is the most gorgeous creature on the world. he’s funny, smart, && just your type. && he thinks the same about you. you two get together, admit your affection towards one another, and join as lovers. he’ll come out of nowhere && wrap his arms around you, call you beautiful on your ugliest day, and smile every time he saw you. it’s like your prayers have been answered.
but imagine: the man you cared for so much turned out to be something you’ve never seen before. he would no longer hold your hand, barely uttered a word to you, stopped saying those little sweet phrases, flirted with the popular girls, never wrapped his arms around you again && blamed it all on you.
yet imagine: in your time of vulnerability you realize he can’t be the one you need. no matter how sweet he was or how cute he may seem. &&you also realize maybe there’s someone that will care for me the way i would hope. &&you found someone. someone sweet, caring, attractive && knew exactly how to make you smile. what do you do? do you leave the one you expected to always care for you and try to show the other guy your feelings towards him? do you stay with the guy you thought was perfect for you and ignore the one who may be perfect for you? i know it’s tough to imagine, but please. please try to understand.
Remember when getting high meant swinging at the playground. The worst thing you could get from girls was cooties. Mom was your hero. Dad was the guy you were going to be bestfriends with . Your worst enemies were your siblings. Race issues were who ran the fastest. War was a card game. Cough medicine was the only drug you had ever heard of. Drama was a type of play. When you said wasted, you were talking about time. The only thing you smoked was the tires on your bike. The only thing that hurt was skinned knees. The only things that could get broken were your toys and bones. Life was simple and care free. But the funny thing is, all I really remember is wanting to grow up.
